New Research Reveals Businesses are Overly Confident About Keeping Hackers Out of Networks, But Not About Keeping Data Safe

DSCI Report 2017

Despite the increasing number of data breaches and more than 1.4 billion data records worldwide being lost or stolen in 2016, organizations continue to believe perimeter security technologies are effective against data breaches. This is one of the many findings of Gemalto’s fourth-annual Data Security Confidence Index (DSCI). Other key findings include:

  • 94% of IT professionals feel perimeter security is effective at keeping unauthorized users out of their networks
  • 65% of IT professionals are not extremely confident that their data would be secure if perimeter defenses were breached and 68% say unauthorized users can access their networks
  • Businesses are confident in meeting compliance mandates, despite 53% of companies believing they will not be fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) when it becomes enforceable next year
